Thorny’s Coat Red is always a blend of various red grapes, and our 2021 version is a blend that wouldn’t be out of place in Italy’s Tuscany region. Primarily Sangiovese (62%) with Cabernet Sauvignon (19%) and Syrah (19%), it combines the beautiful fruit of our Estate-grown Sangiovese with additional structure from Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.

Aroma: Red berries, dark cherries, light oak spice, and dusty herbs.

Palate: SA variety of lush red fruits leads to silky tannins and a potpourri of light Christmas spices. Light-medium bodied finishing with lingering fruit.

Pairing: Equally at home with beef, pork, and heavier chicken dishes (roasted with root vegetables perhaps), vegetarian lasagna and other hearty vegetarian main dishes and mild cheeses. A perfect partner for gourmet pizza with smoked cheese. This is a great example of a European-style wine to enhance rather than compete with the meal.
